Day 1 & 2 on the road

Finally on the road !!!
It seems that the most stressful part of any trip is the pre departure preparations.
Once you are on the way it doesn't  matter what you did or didn't forget, you just have to make do, & that seems much easier.
The first day saw us stop at the Biggenden bakery to pick up some of the best vanilla slices in Australia. We have had these before & they are great, we  then went up to Gayndah to share them with Yvonnes mother for morning tea & visit Yvonnes' fathers grave.
A late lunch saw us at our first overnight free camp at Ceratadus. Lunch, a read, a snooze, a nice walk, then afternoon drinks before dinner. Now I am beginning to remember why we like caravaning so much. No phone, no internet, no worries.
Tonight we are on the Dawson River, at another free camp about 50k west of Biloela, even prettier than yesterday.
Strangely enough we still have a slow week internet signal.
Ruby & Yvonne at Peters' grave in Gayndah. Peter sadly passed away only days before our cycling trip to Germany in 2015.

Yvonne peeping out at our first stop at Ceratadus, about 11k North of Eidsvold.

A flying fox high over the Burnett river at Ceratadus. It may have been high over the river, but it was still full of flood debris, not high enough.

The Burnett river steaming on a very chilly, clear, winters morning. We were glad that we installed the heater in the van prior to this trip.

Kevin standing on the now disused rail bridge over the Burnett river.
The same bridge from another Angle.

Strolling back from our morning walk. Note another abandoned Paulownia plantation off to the right.

The old Ceratodus station now renovated, but with no tracks.

Yvonne on the banks of of the Dawson river at tonights camp.

We scabbed a free cup of plunger coffee from our travelling companions, at afternoon tea.

One of our camp neighbours was a one man band, mouth harp, guitar & singing, he wasn't too bad & made for a pleasant afternoon.

The 18 hole golf course in the middle of nowhere near our campsite.

  1. Happy days guys, we are a tad jealous. Weather not too flash over here at the moment, but anyway. Enjoy your travels, regards to Kev&Jo.
