Left Lara, back to Barcaldine to fill up with nice clean water & on to Longreach, home of the Flying Doctor, QANTAS & The Stockmans Hall Of Fame. These things Jo & Kevin checked out as we have seen them several times before. We checked out the town on foot & bicycle, tested the bakery coffee shop, did some shopping & spent a couple of hours catching up on paperwork from home, while we have a fast internet connection. Tonight we will all go to the woolshed for dinner. I have been very fortunate to pick up the flu & feel like crap. Tomorrow we have a very long leg of 648km to Mt Isa as the car is booked in for a service on Friday morning.
Red dirt airstrip at Lara. Long enough to get the flying doctors King Air safely down.
Campfire drinks on the final night at Lara.
Morning of departure, still looks good.
A couple of friendly emus greet us as we pull into camp at Longreach.
Set up & charging at Longreach camp.
A flock of very large Brolgas joined us for breakfast this morning & were happy to take bread from our hands.
Brolgas.
Olde Worlde station at Longreach.
The platform & coffee shop.
Eagle Street (Main St) of Longreach. Tourists enjoy a coach ride.
These 53 metre long road train trucks are everywhere & are quite daunting if they pass you. There are no multi lanes here.
