3 more days have elapsed since we have had any phone or internet reception.
We are now in Broome on the far North West coast of Western Australia.
After only a little over 7000k & five and a half weeks we have crossed the continent, from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean. In another week or so we should be about half way on this road trip on steroids. We have seen a billion different shapes, colours & sizes of rocks, gorges & caverns & have seen enough red dust to build a planet. Theres red dust on the car, the caravan, in the car, in the caravan, in the dishes, in my tools, in my underpants & even in the crack of my bum.
At this point I am Qualified to say "Australia has a lot of red dust".
Broome is great, unlike some of the places we have passed through, which I have not mentioned much about in this blog. It is still hot, but nice, there is a lot to see & do here & we will be staying a few days to enjoy the place & have a little R & R. Here are the pics............
There were many thousands of hectares of sandal wood plantations around Kununurra. They are the ones in every 4th row, with dark green leaves. The 3 different rows of trees in between are sacrificial, as the roots of the sandalwood latch on to the roots of the other trees & suck the life out of them until they die & are replaced. The sandalwood does not get nutrients from the ground.
Very good roads, but all the bridges are single lane only. It can get a little interesting at times.
Another 1 lane bridge with an interesting feature..
The pharmacy in Halls creek. All the shops look like this & for good reason.
Have you heard the term 'skinny legs' ?
There were a lot of these unusual plants for the last 1000 or so Ks. This one pictured on the the banks of the Mary river at another free camp West of Halls Creek.
The abandoned causeway over the Mary river, from the old road. Thats Yvonne.
The remains of an old telegraph pole in the Mary river.
Yvonne next to one of the gazillions of white ant mounds.
Lots of escarpments.
A popular free camp, with plenty of red dust to go round.
Glamping, Yvonne enjoys an ice cream, hundreds of Ks from anywhere.
Mary river WA, it doesn't actually run.
Yvonne dragging our home down the highway.
One of the countless fires we have come across.
A cliff top morning tea brew up. Pure iron stone rocks. I reckon WA is just one big lump of iron ore.
Pano of morning stop.
Fitzroy Crossing, one of the many towns I have said little about & for very good reason.
Here's Steve & his combi at Cable beach. We have crossed paths many times over the last 2000k.
He is from Melbourne & is travelling with his wife & 2 very young children.
This is a picture I have waited years take. It shows the live web cam overlooking Cable Beach at Broome. I have been looking from the other side for the last 5 years. At last I am on the correct side.
If you log on to this address http://www.zanders.com.au/cam/ tomorrow 19/08/2017 at 7.40pm Queensland time you will see me on the beach & the sunset over the water.
At last my feet wet in the Indian Ocean.
Cable Beach Broome, possibly the most beautiful beach in the world.
Yvonne taking a picture on the beach at sunset.
This proves it was actually sunset.
Camels on the beach at sunset.
Selfie, camera on a rock & timer set.
The sun has just submerged.
The golden afterglow.
The earlier photo of my feet, well this was me taking it.
