Dongara about 70k South of Geraldton. A couple more days have passed since our last post & we once again have internet at a free camp in Dongara. We have passed through Carnarvon, which seems to be a bit of a sad town & down to Geraldton, which seems to be very large & thriving.
The country has changed incredibly, it is now green & lush & quite cool. (hooray we are wearing jumpers at last)
The country just North of Geraldton is wall to wall wild flowers of every colour you can think of & we didn't get any good pics of it. Tomorrow we are driving the Indian ocean coast road to Perth, which we hope will have a lot more wild flowers. This time we will take pics.
This morning Jo & Kev left before we woke up to set off in a different direction home, while we still have some exploring to do in Perth & the South West.
Heading out of Carnarvon was evidence of the recent storm we had in Coral Bay. Nice to see the dust settled.
Another lone cyclist on an endless road.
The country is changing fast.
North of Geraldton, endless fields of canola stretch to the horizon. They are a lovely colour.
As above.
Tried to catch a few interesting flowers on the move. Not much success.
Wheat & many other crops. There were huge fields of some bright yellow flowers that completely covered the ground & were only about 2 inches high. The sheep were grazing these flowers, it looked very pretty.
It was a vista but looks like crap in this pictograph.
Refer to previous pic.
We went to the 1 mile jetty at Carnarvon. There was a rail museum there, but it was very sad.
A rusty engine, thinking, I wish someone would put me out of my misery & melt me down.
The 1 mile jetty looked pretty sad too.
The unsafe conditions are caused by our indigenous brothers lighting fires on it & burning down the end while they are fishing off it. It gets repaired & the same thing happens again.
There was a mangrove board walk, which we explored.
Thats Yvonne doing it.
Some crap about the jetty, which I didn't bother reading. Someone else may be interested.
Lots of these very intersting flat topped hills. They are quite high. There was a road up this one, so we checked it out.
The view was clear & we could see all the way out to the ocean.
At the cliff edge was the 'Gnome City of the Dead'
Gnome city of the dead.
The view, the city of the dead & a pile of rocks with some very strange messages in it.
Free camp Dongara.
