Onslow

Another 3 days have gone by without internet upload access. We are now sitting right on the beach in a caravan park in Onslow.
On the way here we spent 2 nights camped on the banks of the Maitland river, with its crystal clear waters. We had countless swims as it was still crazy hot, but spending most of the day in the lovely water was not hard to take. We were a little uneasy at first as you never know if there are crocs or not, but we saw no signs & so pretty much lived in the lovely fresh water for the next 2 days.
( No one was eaten )
Last night we spent on the banks of the Robe river & for the first time in a month & a half the day temperature was quite nice & did not exceed 30. Our trip into Onslow this morning has been similar & for the first time we are not using the A/C even though we have power tonight. We are now as far away from our home as it is possible to get & still remain in mainland Australia. We left from pretty much the most Eastern part of the country, travelled right up North to Darwin & are now pretty much as far West as you can go. Every day we head further South it will get a little cooler & we are already starting to feel the benefits. We reckon from Carnarvon South it should be great.

Jo heading in for a swim & Yvonne enjoying some welcome shade at Maitland river camp.

A bird hiding in the reeds in front of me. Not doing a very good job of it.

No crocs here, I was hoping they weren't famous last words. Thats me with the bald head, waving.

Maitland river camp. I cooked a chook in the golden bubble. It came out all right too.

The water was very clear & about 6 or 7 feet deep.

A view back towards our camp from the bridge.

Morning walk along a track by the river.

Another view of our camp from a different angle.

A sunset kayak paddle was very pleasant.

Home viewed from the kayak at sunset.

The cruise continues.

Over the edge of the kayak the water is very still & clear. It is also deeper than it looks.

It was in the shade as the sun was setting, so I was able to take my hat off my bald head.

We moved on to Robe river. This is a tree full of corellas just near our camp, which was a roadside rest area.

Continuing on toward Onslow.

On the bridge over the Fotescue river.

This street light at an intersection in the middle of nowhere, has a wind turbine as well as solar panels to power it.

Ever onward & Southward.

Robe river camp had a resident swan.

The swan again at Robe river.

The bridge over Robe river.

Robe river rest area where we stayed. It was extreme luxury, bitumen meant NO RED DUST & NO ANTS.

A hill that looked a lot better in real life than in a picture.

There are countless billions of these covering most of WA.

Another salt mine coming into Onslow..

Some spoonbill birds at Robe river.

This is some other type of bird.

Not a good spot to pull off the road.

I'm not sure where this was taken.

A tree in the river bed.
