We are in Margaret River, but to get here & travel around here, you must pass through many 'UPs'
There is Nannup, Cowaramup, Manjimup, Burkeup, Boyanup, Dardanup, Binningup, Gelorup, Gnarabup, Boranup, Kudardup & countless more 'UPs' in the area. I feel we have entered a Stephen King novel.
Margaret River is magnificent in many ways & I wish we could spend more time here, than the couple of days we have had.
The place is famous for all the wrong reasons. Everyone always speaks of all the great wineries, but even though there are many, they are quite ordinary & not in the same league as the Barossa.
The natural features here however, are breathtaking & second to none.
We are constantly hearing on the news how WA is not getting enough federal tax. When they used some of the funds for this nice new section of road they commisioned an artist to do this enormous, so called, sculpture which represents raindrops hitting the dirt. This is lit with changing colour lights at night. The translation of all this is, some wanka got a million bucks to scribble some cones on a piece of paper & then an engineering works got anther million to make some perforated cones & stand them up, ongoing mainteence is anybodys guess. A great use of road funding.
Its a lot cooler here & quite cold at night & a hell of a lot greener.
These lily type things grow everywhere, thousands of acres of them throughout forests & fields.
As above.
One of the many caves near Margaret River, this one is Mammoth cave. There were huge ampitheatres in this cave.
Cave.
Cave.
Cave.
A low section of the cave.
Cave.
There were many fossils & bones found in this cave. This is some organic thing that is becoming rockified.
The exit.
The exit.
The country is vastly different than our red dust recent past.
Hamelin Bay. Part of the remains of the old jetty.
The road out to Cape Leeuwin light house. Very dense with white flowers on all the tips, the air was thick with a heavy sweet smell.
This town is another UP & is called Cowaramup & has full sized model cows all over town.
Moo.
More cows.
Certainly a cow town.
More cows.
Yep that really is the name of the town.
This one is a bit bug eyed.
Plenty of green cow paddocks.
Flowers on our bush walk near the cave.

Hamelin Bay, the old jetty remnants.
How it used to look.
A stingray swimming just off the beach.
Some big waves off Cape Leeuwin.
Cape Leeuwin light house on the South western most tip of Australia
This is the crap Australians put up with. Because it is the South western tip of the country & owned by the people it is fenced off & you have to pay $5.00 to stand on a rock & see it, a straight out money grab.
An old calcified water wheel from the whaling days.
Some big waves rolling into the cape.
A reef off the cape.
Under my left arm is the Indian ocean & under my right arm is the Southern ocean.
Augusta, the most south western town in Australia.
At the Cheeky Monkey winery.

Some guys who came to visit at the van. I gave them some 4 seeds bread.
